We heard the Gospel (Luke, XIV:16-24), which stated that one host arranged a great dinner for his friends. What did Jesus Christ mean by this dinner? Of course, he meant, above all, those Jewish priests, whom the Lord prepared since Abraham. It was, as you know, the chosen people. And the Lord did everything in order to teach these people the truth, and through them to save the world. This continued for many thousands of years. You remember Abraham, Jacob, King David, Solomon. And now the time has come when the Lord revealed to them His Son. The dinner is the knowledge of God, the truth, which God prepared for this chosen people....

Sunday, 22 December 2013, after the accomplishment of the Divine Liturgy and common prayer for God to strengthen the power of the people of Ukraine , the clergy and parishioners of the church of the Transfiguration joined the general assembly in Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square in Kyiv, which brought together nearly 500 thousand Ukrainians.

With great joy adults and children met the St Nicholas Day in the church of the Transfiguration, which came to them on December 22, accompanied by the angels of God after the fulfillment of the Divine Liturgy. To obtain desirable gifts, children had to make many good deeds: gather toys scattered by blizzard, show generosity to others, decorate apple tree with fruit and, of course, to recite a poem or sing a song.

St. Nicholas the WonderworkerSaint Nicholas is the most revered saint in the Rus'-Ukraine since ancient times - he was born in Asia Minor in the second half of the III century (in about 270) in the Greek colony of Patara in Lycia in the Roman province in a family of wealthy Christian parents, in his youth he was given to the service of God under the guidance of his uncle, the bishop of Patara. His uncle brought him to the priesthood. The whole life of the saint really was a model of Christian service to God and others. When his parents died, St. Nicholas inherited their fortune, which he gave to charity. Saint Nicholas was a bishop of Myra, a city of Lycia, in Asia Minor (modern Demre), his ascetic life and miracles won fame during his lifetime.
